Quiet Streets for Tower Hamlets
We want calmer, safer streets where people can sleep at night. There are already laws against using the horn without a good reason, street racing and very loud cars. Together, we can make Tower Hamlets the first Quiet Streets borough.
Change is possible
- West Yorkshire Police gives out about 90 fines a year for wrong use of the horn.
- Kensington and Chelsea uses noise cameras to catch loud cars.
- New York City fines very loud cars that noise cameras catch.
What we want
- Easier journeys for drivers: fix the narrow roads and difficult junctions where drivers get stuck, get angry and use the horn.
- The laws on horns, racing and loud exhausts enforced across the borough.
- Noise cameras where they are needed, including on streets where people live.
- An easy way for residents to report problems and see what happens next.
Our first street: Salmon Lane, Limehouse. See the problem and email the people who can fix it.
Seen or heard noisy or dangerous driving? Report it to the police: call 101 or go to met.police.uk. Every report helps show where change is needed.
